2 firefighters hurt as fire hits textile warehouse in Taytay, Rizal

Two firefighters were wounded while trying to put out a blaze that hit a textile warehouse in Taytay, Rizal shortly after midnight Wednesday.

In a report on Unang Balita, GMA's Bam Alegre said the fire hit a building in Sitio Burol, Barangay San Juan, which housed fabric and ready-to-wear clothes.

"Initially, mayroong dalawang firefighters nagkaroon ng bahagyang sunog sa kanilang kamay dahil napatakan ng natutunaw na plastic," Fire Inspector Gary Cantillion said, adding that the firefighters are now in a stable condition.

(Initially, two firefighters suffered hand burn from a piece of plastic that had melted.)

Fire officials raised the third alarm after 2 a.m. as thick smoke came out from the building's ceiling and windows.

All of the stay-in employees of the warehouse were able to evacuate. William Sy, owner of the building, arrived on the scene and said he had no idea what happened because the people in the warehouse were only tenants.

At around 6 a.m., firefighters declared the blaze "confined" within the building parameters.
