Suspected communist rebel killed in Sultan Kudarat clash — military
A suspected communist rebel was killed in an encounter with government security forces in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat over the weekend, the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) said Monday.
In a statement, the military said the Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion engaged around five alleged rebels in Barangay Tibuhol at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.
After the short firefight, the Wesmincom said the operating troops recovered the body of one of the alleged rebels.
The military did not name the fatality.
They also recovered assorted war materials such as a caliber 30 M1 Garand rifle, four clips with 28 rounds of caliber 30 ammunition, and a sling bag.
Joint Task Force (JTF) Central neutralized a total of 44 communist group members since January this year, of which, five were killed and 39 surrendered. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
