Banaue flash flood sweeps away vehicles, house, cuts power supply
Rampaging flash flood spawned by hours of heavy rain swept away vehicles, some livestock, and knocked off a hillside house in Banaue, Ifugao.
A video on Unang Balita shows the raging muddy flash flood sweeping vehicles, including a tricycle, down a road in an area.
Also, a hillside house can be seen being slowly eroded, finally collapsing in the flood. Some livestock could also be seen being carried away by the violent floodwaters.
Elsewhere, according to James Agustin, landslides struck some hillside areas in Banaue, adding that deep floods did not spare some major roads, leaving motorists stranded.
Some roads that were temporarily closed are now cleared after road-clearing operations, the report noted.
Powerline posts were knocked down, cutting power supply to Banaue, the report added.
In an update on Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 1,500 people or 500 families in six barangays in Banaue were affected by floods.
At least 23 people or 13 families were staying in an evacuation center.
A total of three roads were not passable including Banaue-Mayoyao Alfonso Lista Isabela boundary road, Banaue-Hungduan Benguet boundary road, and Nueva Vizcaya Ifugao-Mt. Province boundary road.
A series of soil collapses were reported on Thursday evening. Clearing operations will start when the weather permits, the NDRRMC said.
One house was reported totally damaged.
Around 500 family food packs worth P339,375 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have been distributed to affected residents. —with a report by Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
