Japan donates P198 million worth of medical equipment to BARMM

The Japanese government has donated medical equipment worth JP¥580 million or approximately P198 million to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in a bid to help enhance the quality of health services in the region.

Japanese Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa on Thursday said the donations, which include dialysis machines and ICU beds, would be distributed to ten hospitals in the region.

“Japan grants health equipment to BARMM worth 500M yen! Dialysis machines, ICU beds, and more will go to ten hospitals in the region,” Kashikawa said on Twitter.

“These will improve quality health services and ensure chances of leading healthier, comfortable, and fulfilled lives for the people of Bangsamoro,” he said.

This is not the first time the country provided assistance to the Muslim region.

In April, the BARMM Ministry of Health also received sea ambulances and other medical equipment from the Japanese government and the International Organization for Migration.

Likewise, Japan distributed JP¥350 million (about P154.9 million) worth of Japanese rice to the region in November 2021 as part of its commitment to advance food security in BARMM. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
