Swimming, water activities allowed in Boracay again after jellyfish problem
Authorities have lifted the temporary ban on swimming and other water activities on Boracay island that was imposed over the weekend due to the presence of thousands of jellyfish.
The lifting of the ban was confirmed by the Malay Tourism Office, according to an Unang Balita report on Tuesday.
The jellyfish were spotted around noon on Saturday beached across White Beach's three stations.
According to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), jellyfish beachings occur on the island around May to September, as the wind pushes them to shore.
Although not deadly, the jellyfish may cause itching and allergy on contact, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Because of this, the local government of Malay cautioned against going into the water while the jellyfish were present. —KBK, GMA News
