PNP: 6 hurt in Datu Piang, Maguindanao explosion


The Philippine National Police on Monday said six persons were hurt after an explosion in Datu Piang, Maguindanao on election day.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said the the victims were waiting for their turn to cast their vote when an explosion hit the covered court in Datu Piang National High School.

“Sa Datu Piang naman, yung anim na biktima roon ay nag-aantay ng kanilang turn para makaboto doon sa covered court, bigla na lang pong may sumabog na ang resulta po na anim yung nasugatan,” she said at a press conference.

(In Datu Piang, the six victims were waiting their turn to vote in the covered court when suddenly there was an explosion that resulted in six wounded persons.)

Meanwhile, Fajardo added that two strafing incidents have been reported in Sumisip and Tipo-Tipo, Basilan where the schools were rained with bullets. She said no one has been hurt in the incidents.

As of 3 p.m., the PNP has monitored a total of 73 reported incidents of election-related violence on election day.  Of these, 16 have been confirmed linked to the May 9 elections.

Five of the validated reports were from Central Luzon, four each from Ilocos and Zamboanga, two from Cordillera, and one in Northern Mindanao.—LDF, GMA News
