Family loses P500K worth of valuables to ‘dugo-dugo’ scam
A family from Rodriguez, Rizal lost nearly half a million of their possessions after falling victim to a “dugo-dugo” modus operandi.
According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras”, complainant Vince Fortun said he and his wife were at work when their daughter received a phone call claiming he supposedly needs help after figuring in a traffic incident.
“Di ba tatay mo si ano? Ang sabi beating the red light daw po ako tapos nakakulong daw po ako ngayon. So, ang sinasabi po dun sa bata meron daw perang nakatago dun sa aparador namin,” Fortun said.
(They asked: ‘Isn’t he your father?’ They said I was jailed because I beat the red light. They told the child to get the money hidden in our cabinet.)
When his daughter did not find any money, the suspect allegedly instructed her to collect their pieces of jewelry and other valuables and deliver them to Muñoz, Quezon City.
Police confirmed the scheme and said it was indeed a “dugo-dugo” scam.
‘Yan ang gusto nila mabilisan so you don’t have time to think,” said Police Inspector Michelle Sabino, spokesperson of Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA News
