1 dead, 3 injured in cargo ship fire off Talisay, Cebu —PCG


One crew member died, while three others were wounded in the fire that hit a Cargo ship  off Talisay City in Cebu province on Sunday morning.

In a report on Super Radyo dzBB, John Kim Bote of Super Radyo-Cebu said the fire broke  out in a part of the cargo ship at about past 9 a.m.

Citing  information from Philippine Coast Guard-Cebu Commander Captain Alvin Dagalea, Kim Bote said the fatality was one of the chief engineers of MV General Romulo cargo ship, which was nearing the Cebu City port to complete its voyage from Manila.

Captain Dagalea identified the fatality as Nelson Pulverosa, 60, the report said.

Likewise, Dagalea was quoted as saying that three other crew members were injured in the incident, and were brought to a hospital.

Sixteen other crewmembers were rescued by PCG Cebu personnel, the report added.

Firefighters were still trying to put out the fire as of at past 10 a.m., while the cause of the fire was being investigated, the report added. —LBG, GMA News
