Magnitude 5.2 quake rocks Batanes Island

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck near the Batanes group of Islands Monday evening at 9:47 PM, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The epicenter of the tremor was located 107 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. It was tectonic in nature and had a depth of focus of 24 kilometers.

No reported intensities were detected, according to PHIVOLCS.

Aftershocks are expected but no damages are reported. -- BAP, GMA News
