Magnitude 5 quake strikes northeast of Masbate –PHIVOLCS


A Magnitude 5 earthquake struck northeast of Masbate on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

The quake struck at 5:44 p.m. nine kilometers northeast of Masbate's Dimasalang town.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a three-kilometer depth of focus.

The quake was felt at Intensity V in Dimasalang; and Intensity IV in Cataingan and Palanas, Masbate.

It was felt at Intensity III in Masbate City and Uson, Masbate.

The quake was also measured at an Instrumental Intensity III in Masbate City; and Intensity I in Legazpi City; Palo and Calubian, Leyte; Roxas City; Sorsogon City.

While no damage was expected from the quake, aftershocks were expected. — DVM, GMA News
