180 Limasawa Island residents receive food packs, chicken feed from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Many residents of Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte lost not just their homes but also their livelihood when Typhoon Odette hit the country last year.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Friday, the island's agriculture and fishing industries lost P41 million due to the damage from Odette's onslaught.
"Maraming namatay na hayop kasi after Odette kasi walang pagkain wala ding feeds, kaya 'yung iba kinatay na lang para mapakinabangan pa," said Trifon Jun Solana, an agricultural technologist in livestock for Limasawa Island.
["Many animals died after because because there was no food and no animal feed, so some of them were slaughtered instead for meat."]
One of the residents, Salome Dadios, have been raising chickens and pigs for 10 years. Some of her animals died just when she was about to sell them.
"Lugi kami dahil sa bagyo namatay sila. Mabuti na lang, may nabuhay pa," she said.
["We're in the red because the animals died due to the typhoon. It's a fortunate that some survived."]
To help the people of Limasawa Island recover in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs and one sack of chicken feed to 180 residents of Barangay San Bernardo and Triana.
"Malaking tulong ang ibinigay n'yo sa amin. Pag binili namin ito, mahal ang presyo," said Salome.
["Your aid is a huge help to us. If we buy these ourselves, it would be so expensive."]
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
