3 cops arrested for alleged extortion, robbery, sexual assault in Leyte —PNP-IMEG
The Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) on Friday said three cops in Palo, Leyte were arrested for multiple extortion, robbery, and sexual harassment.
In a statement, the IMEG identified the cops as Police Senior Master Sergeant Alex Garciab Asis, Police Staff Sergeant Raffy Mendoza Retosar, and Police Corporal Jerwin Neopus Dacillo.
The Visayas Field Unit Office arrested the police officers in an entrapment operation.
Citing a report from the IMEG, PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said these cops were allegedly extorting money for almost four months from a suspect they arrested for extortion in October 2021.
The suspect-turned-victim is already out on bail following her arrest in an entrapment operation in a medical mission, the police said.
Recovered from the suspects were six pieces of P1,000 bill, P460 in different denominations, two Glock 17 9mm pistol, two magazines with 29 ammunition, and four cell phones.
The suspects are now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 8 in Port Area, Tacloban City for filing of criminal and administrative charges, which could lead to “expulsion from the police force.”
"I assure the public that we continue our aggressive campaign to rid our ranks of this kind of police destroying our organization,” Carlos said.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
