12 towns in Leyte affected by E.Coli contamination

Governor Damian Mercado has announced that the water supply in at least 12 towns in the province of Leyte is affected by bacterial contamination, according to a report on "Saksi."

Mercado said the local government is currently conducting a study to determine the extent of the E. Coli contamination of the water supply brought about by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

The Department of Health in eastern Visayas advised the residents to boil or disinfect their drinking water. The same agency also distributed water containers.

E. Coli is a type of bacteria that causes stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea. -- BAP, GMA News
