Bohol Odette death toll climbs to 108 –provincial gov’t


The number of fatalities in Bohol due to Typhoon Odette was now over a hundred, the provincial government reported on Monday.

In a bulletin posted by Bohol Governor Arthur Yap on Facebook, as verified by the Department of Health and local government units (LGUs), there were a total of 108 deaths, 12 missing, and 1,946 injured in the province.

Most of the casualties came from the second district of Bohol, particularly in Talibon and Ubay with 14 deaths each.

There were also 61,997 individuals or 26,590 families evacuated due to the storm.

The breakdown of the number of deaths per area was as follows:

  • Panglao: 1
  • Tubigon: 3
  • Bien Unido: 7
  • Buenavista: 4
  • Clarin: 3

  • Pres. Carlos P. Garcia: 5
  • Sagbayan: 1
  • San Miguel: 6
  • Talibon: 14
  • Ubay: 14
  • Alicia: 4
  • Batuan: 2
  • Bilar: 1
  • Candijay: 1
  • Carmen: 2
  • Guindulman: 1
  • Jagna: 2
  • Loboc: 1
  • Mabini: 2
  • Pilar: 3
  • Valencia: 2

These figures covered all 48 LGUs in Bohol, but are still partial as communication lines are still down in several areas.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Sunday appealed for donations of generator sets (gensets) as power services remained a problem in the province.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said that Bohol was one of the areas most affected by Typhoon Odette, with 183 electric posts and five transmission towers collapsed.

Affected residents also needed potable water and construction materials to rebuild houses.

Bohol was placed under Tropical Cycle Wind Signal No. 4 at the height of Typhoon Odette.

On December 17, Yap signed Executive Order No. 65 declaring a state of calamity in Bohol after Odette's devastation. — DVM, GMA News
