Iloilo City declares state of calamity due to Odette

A state of calamity has been declared in Iloilo City after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, Mayor Jerry Treñas announced on Tuesday.

In a press conference, Treñas added that the city will have more access to assistance from the national government after the declaration.

“With the challenges left by Typhoon Odette, a session was conducted by the City Council to declare the metro under the State of Calamity so we can provide financial assistance to the victims of the storm,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also announced that households with totally damaged homes will receive P10,000 assistance while those with partially damaged homes will have P4,3000.

As of Tuesday, one fatality was reported in Iloilo City due to the typhoon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

A total 156 people were reported dead, 37 were missing, and 275 were injured due to the onslaught of Odette, the NDRRMC said Tuesday. —KG, GMA News
