17 reported dead, 22 missing in Puerto Princesa

At least 17 people were reported dead while 22 were missing in northern part of Puerto Princesa due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, Super Radyo Palawan reported Tuesday.

Super Radyo Palawan’s Junfred Calamba said that in Barangay Irawan, a two-year old child was swept by floods while their family was crossing a road to evacuate Friday night.

Meanwhile, remains of a senior citizen was found in Barangay Lucbuan. Authorities were yet to get the body as the city clearing team is yet to reach the area.

In Langogan, five were reported dead while one was still missing, Calamba said.

The Super Radyo Palawan team also received information that 22 people were reported missing in an island in Roxas municipality.

Calamba said as Monday, 7,602 families or 14,497 individuals were reported affected by Typhoon Odette in Puerto Princesa. There were also 73 evacuation centers catering to the needs of the affected people.

He said their team traveled eight to nine hours from Puerto Princesa to Roxas municipality. Most of the roads were impassable to four-wheeled vehicles and only motorcycles can pass through.

The communication system in Puerto Princesa was also down and most areas also do not have electricity yet.

According to the Palawan Electric Cooperative, it would take time to restore power supply in the city, Calamba reported.

Super Radyo Palawan set up a charging station to help the residents power their cellphones.

Most of the houses in the city were either totally damaged or have no roofs.

Calamba also reported there were also no available potable water supply and the people were getting their water through wells, streams, or broken pipes. There were also no available bottled water in city.

He said the city also needs food as the supply is already running out.—AOL, GMA News
