Odette causes significant damage in Maasin City; families assure loved of safety

Families in Maasin, Southern Leyte reassured their loved ones that they were safe, as mobile telecommunication services in the area remained intermittent due to the damage caused by Super Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).

The area was among one of the hardest hit by Odette, with power yet to be restored and intermittent cellular signals making communication difficult.

A number of families sent out their messages to their loved ones through video recordings aired on Jonathan Andal's Sunday "24 Oras Weekend" report.

According to Maasin Mayor Nacional Mercado, the local government’s relief goods have been compromised as warehouses were also damaged by the storm.

“We are relying now sa mga donations and hindi pa rin namin makuha ‘yung naka-reserve sa amin sa NFA sa warehouse, dahil wala kaming paglalagyan,” he said in the same report.

{We are relying on donations and we have yet to receive those allocated to use in the NFA warehouse because we have no storage facilities.}

Odette left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday afternoon, after causing “total devastation” in areas under its path. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
