Typhoon Odette renders roads impassable in Visayas provinces
Toppled posts, fallen trees and various debris littered several major roads in Liloan, Southern Leyte and several other provinces in the Visayas making them impassable to vehicles, according to Cedric Castillo’s “24 Oras” report on Friday.
The blocked roads were among the trail of destruction left by Typhoon Odette that lashed several provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao with strong winds and rains Thursday.
The town has no electricity and communication signals, the report added.
At the onslaught of the typhoon, a roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) passenger vessel damaging several coastal houses.
Meanwhile, several residents in Cebu City were left homeless after houses and establishments were battered by Odette, according to Alan Domingo’s GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak report.
Roads in Cebu South Coastal Road going to Southern Cebu were also impassable due to fallen trees and electric posts in the area.
Power was also cut in the province.
At least 250 residents were rescued by personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard in flooded areas in Cagayan de Oro City, according to Emil Sumangil’s “24 Oras” report on Friday.
The Coast Guard said it was also verifying reports of vessels stranded and submerged in the affected provinces.
PCG reported at least 4,741 stranded passengers, while 78 ports were closed due to the typhoon.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
