Rama assumes Cebu City mayorship

New Cebu City Mayor Michael “Mike” Rama took his oath of office on Saturday, following the death of former mayor Edgardo Labella.

Ex PBA star and Councilor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros meanwhile took his oath for vice mayorship, along with Rama, in front of Justice Gabriel Ingles.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) states that ascension of position proceeds after a death in the executive department.

In a Facebook post, Rama said he would continue the projects and initiatives of Labella, who became his vice mayor for several terms since 2013.

“As we work together to uplift and empower the Cebuanos amidst the various challenges that lay ahead, we will formulate a concrete direction for the next couple of months by virtue of an executive and legislative agenda,” he said.

Labella passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Friday while confined at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City. He was 70 years old. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA News
