9 kids, playing with grenade, hurt in explosion in Leyte

At least nine children were hurt in Baybay City in Leyte after the grenade they were playing with exploded, according to the report of Marisol Abdhuraman on "Saksi" on Friday.

The children sustained wounds and bruises in different parts of their body when the 40 mm grenade exploded.

The grenade was found in Sitio Tinago in Barangay Candadam, Baybay City, Leyte.

Leyte Provincial Police Director Col. Rodel Samson said the children were passing the grenade to each other. The grenade exploded when one of them dropped it.

It was 8-year-old "PJ" who found the grenade. A neighbor told him to return the grenade. "PJ" said he immediately returned the explosive but one of his friends found it and proceeded to play with it with other friends.

The children were brought to the hospital and were sent home after treatment.

The police should be informed if any one finds a grenade or explosive devices. -- BAP, GMA News
