Sara Duterte fires info officer who attended party raided by PDEA
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said Tuesday she terminated from work her city information officer Jefry Tupas after a party the latter attended on Saturday was raided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
PDEA seized P1.5 million worth of drugs during the raid at a beach party in Mabini, Davao de Oro Saturday evening. At least 17 suspects were arrested in the operation, including Revsan Ethelbert Papay Elizalde, who was the subject of the operation.
Tupas, who admitted attending the party, said she left after eating and prior to the operation that happened.
"The former City Information Officer, Jefry Tupas, of the City Government of Davao was involved in a drug raid last November 6 in the Municipality of Mabini, Province of Davao de Oro. The details of the raid are known only to the PDEA officers in Davao de Oro and Ms. Tupas," Duterte said in a statement.
"Last Sunday, Jefry signified his resignation and on the same moment he was informed that he is terminated from work with the City Government of Davao,” she added.
PDEA said Elizalde sold suspected illegal drugs to a poseur buyer. The suspects are currently detained at the National Bureau of Investigation detention facility. They will face complaint over violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA News
