Over 2,000 students in Palawan receive school supplies from Kapuso Foundation
A total of 2,375 students from the municipalities of Aborlan and Narra in Palawan received school supplies through the GMA Kapuso Foundation's "Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan" project.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, among the beneficiaries were the Tagbanua people like Velminda Alasan.
Like her fellow Tagbanua, Alasan earns a living from making handicraft items using rattan. Her income, however, is not enough to provide all the needs of her three children.
"My eldest, he experienced not having a bag when classes started. He had no notebooks, paper, and pencil," she said in a mix of English and Filipino.
Even when they have the money, Alasan cannot travel to the town center due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in their area. Palawan declared a state of calamity in June.
Thankfully, last month, the Kapuso Foundation was allowed to enter the province and distribute school supplies, hygiene kits, and face masks to the students.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is still accepting donations through bank deposits, Pay Maya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora, Mega Mart, and Globe Rewards.
