Impounded dogs left unfed at Cebu town pound

Animal rights groups have expressed concern over a video showing impounded dogs left unfed and eating the carcasses of other dogs inside a pound in Asturias, Cebu.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, the municipal government of Asturias started impounding stray dogs in September following the implementation of an ordinance.

After the video went viral, concerned citizens and groups rescued the impounded dogs.

Authorities found at least three dogs dead inside the pound.

Meanwhile, the Animal Kingdom Foundation is planning on filing a case against the government official responsible for the animal shelter.

"Ang gusto ng Animal Kingdom Foundation is to hold the local government officers, kung sinuman nagpapatakbo diyan na maging accountable at maging liable," AKF program director Atty. Heidi Caguioa said.

Asturias Mayor Antonio Pintor said he will order an investigation on the matter. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/NB, GMA News
