Nonstop rains cause chest-deep floods in Davao City

Continuous heavy rains flooded communities in Davao City, affecting hundreds of residents.

The floodwaters were almost chest-deep in some areas, according to a report by GMA Regional TV's Rgil Relator on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Residents were rescued, and they pulled out the operation by midnight. The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is still investigating the situation and the damage caused by the flood.

The Davao City local government unit (LGU) disseminated hot meals to the residents.

Meanwhile, motorists were stranded along Roxas Street, Davao City, according to a report by Darlene Cay on Unang Balita.

According to Team Davao Rescue, the Matina River reached critical level. Families residing near the area were forced to evacuate.

Power supply was temporarily cut off due to the flooding. However, Davao authorities continue to monitor the situation.

PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country, except the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Provinces, and Catanduanes, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms on Tuesday due to localized thunderstorms. It said flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA News
