Student killed after car hits post in ‘self accident’

A student was killed after his car crashed into a Light Rail Transit (LRT) pillar along the Marcos Highway on Saturday.

Antipolo police officers immediately responded to the incident in which  a 21-year-old student hit the LRT column near a mall at 2 a.m., according to Chino Gaston’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday.

The front of the vehicle was severely damaged, with oil and car parts scattered along the road. Emergency services said the student immediately died in the crash.

“Ang lumalabas po sa investigation parang self accident po ang nangyari according sa certain witness. Nagiisa lang daw po siya tapos sumalpok na po sa area. Mabilis daw po yung takbo,” Police Lieutenant Anthony Kahayon, commander of Mayamot PCP, said.

(It appears from our investigation that it was a self accident according to a certain witness. He seemed to be alone on the road before crashing. The vehicle was moving very quickly.)

According to the Antipolo PNP report, several car enthusiasts often hang out at restaurants and gas stations along the Marcos Highway.

Authorities said they regularly patrol the highway each dawn to prevent car accidents and illegal car races. — Richa Noriega/DVM, GMA News
