Cebu flash flood kills 2, including minor
Two people were killed, including a seven-year-old, after a flash flood swept through the Tinubdan Falls in Catmon, Cebu.
In a GMA Regional TV report on "24 Oras," a video showed nearby residents trying to rescue Kent Jude Monterola who was stuck holding on to a rock amid the strong current.
Residents used ropes to pull the victim out of the water but failed to save Monterola's life.
Monterola was having a picnic with his relatives, 32-year-old Jacel Alastra and her daughter, Princess Alastra, near the waterfall.
After the picnic, they went swimming near the waterfalls when a flash flood swept over them.
Jacel is still missing while the bodies of Princess and Monterola have already been recovered.
Carlos Japitana Dolendo, the man who filmed the video, was frightened by the strong water current.
"That was the most unforgettable moment that happened in my life. Na sobrang killer, killer talaga, killer talaga yung tubig. (The water is a killer.)," he said.
According to Catmon police, heavy rainfall in the mountains caused the flash flood.
The Catmon government said they are investigating the area where the picnic was held because the establishment allegedly had no license to operate. — Consuelo Marquez/DVM, GMA News
