Latest Delta case not a local patient of Bicol region

The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol Region on Thursday said the new Delta variant case involving a Bicolano is currently working in Metro Manila, which means it is not a local case of the Bicol region.

In a statement, The DOH Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD) made the clarification after the DOH Central Office said 12 new Delta variant infections were reported in the country, including one from Bicol.

However, Bicol CHD said the 27-year-old Sorsogon female resident has not traveled to Bicol in the past three years. Her specimen was also taken at the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City last June 25.

"The patient is a 27 year old female from Sorsogon who has neither travelled to Bicol for the last 3 years nor have been visited by someone from Bicol before getting sick. Hence the patient is not a local case of the Region," DOH Bicol CHD said.

Further, Bicol CHD  reiterated that minimum public health standards should still be observed to prevent "all mutations of the virus."

"Properly wear face mask and face shield, sanitize your hands, maintain social distancing, and avoid crowded and enclosed spaces," it further said.

Philippines has so far registered 47 cases of the more contagious Delta variant. Three of whom have died.—LDF,GMA News
