Taal evacuee tests positive for COVID-19

Aside from Taal Volcano unrest, an evacuee in Batangas City also has to face another challenge, which is to survive COVID-19.

According to Saleema Refran's "24 Oras" report, the evacuee is a resident of Agoncillo, Batangas, who had to leave her home due to the situation at Taal volcano. Agoncillo is one of the high-risk barangays identified by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Agoncillo Mayor Daniel Reyes said the evacuee is a woman and senior citizen who was found positive after undertaking an antigen test. The evacuee also underwent vaccination against COVID-19.

To date, there are 25 active cases of COVID-19 in Agoncillo.

Meanwhile,  evacuees in Taal, Batangas were also subjected to random antigen tests to immediately isolate and treat sickened residents.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported 185 earthquakes within Taal Volcano. No phreatomagmatic eruptions were reported but residents are required to keep off danger zones as the volcano is still under Alert Level 3, which means eruptions are imminent.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
