20 Davao City establishments part of 'zoning containment' due to high COVID-19 cases

Temporary closure of about 20 private and government-owned establishments in Davao City will be implemented on Sunday, the 4th of July 2021 due to a hike in COVID-19 cases, according to the report of John Ryan Calonia of Super Radyo Davao.

Davao City COVID-19 Task Force Dr. Michelle Schlosser said the zoning containment is aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 after reported clustering and spike in the number of cases.

Many of the establishments that would be affected by the directive were found to have a common pantry and a single doorway for the entrance and exit of employees.

Schlosser said the establishments eyed for temporary lockdown will not be given warnings so the management would not be able to keep information pertinent to the order.

However, they will be given 24 hours before they are directed to begin temporary closure.

So far, Davao City, which is currently classified under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine or MECQ has recorded more than 25,000 COVID-19 cases and about 4,000 of these are active cases.

One of the reasons for the temporary lockdown on Sunday is the failure of these establishments to follow safety protocols.

Among the COVID-19 cases, it was found, were found to be employees who were infected with the SARS-COV virus at their workplace. -- BAP, GMA News
