Seismic activity around Mount Bulusan increasing —PHIVOLCS

Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon showed increased volcanic activity with 105 earthquakes detected in the past 24-hour observation period, PHIVOLCS said Sunday.

"Weak emission of white steam-laden plumes from the lower southeast vents before drifting north-northwest was observed," state seismologists added in their Mount Bulusan monitoring bulletin.

Bulusan remained under Alert Level Status 1, which indicates that it is in an abnormal condition, PHIVOLCS said.

It also advised local government units and the general public that there should be a ban on entry into  4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ).

PHIVOLCS also warned of increased vigilance in the 2-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeast sector "due to the increased possibilities of sudden and hazardous phreatic eruptions." —Consuelo Marquez/LBG, GMA News
