Norzagaray river tourists fail to observe COVID-19 health protocols

Tourists flocked to a resort in Barangay Matictic in Norzagaray, Bulacan on Sunday, foregoing social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Dano Tingcungco's report on "24 Oras Weekend," some of the tourists were seen not wearing face masks and face shields. Minors were also present in the area.

"Mainit kaya nag-try kami dito na mag-swimming," one of the tourists said.

Outdoor tourist attractions are allowed to operate in general community quarantine areas but only up to 30% capacity.

"Nabulaga po kami nitong araw na 'to, napakatindi ang dating ng mga tao," Barangay Matictic captain Marcial Lucas said.

They stopped accepting tourists at around 12 p.m. but people still kept arriving.

Eventually, authorities ordered the tourists to vacate the area.

The barangay, provincial government, and cottage owners will convene on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

Philippine National Police chief General Guillermo Eleazar already ordered an investigation on the matter.
