5 Koreans, 4 Filipinos allegedly involved in hacking, phishing arrested in Pampanga

Five Koreans and four Filipinos were arrested on Monday in Angeles City, Pampanga for their alleged engagement in scams through hacking and phishing, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.

Citing a report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas identified the suspects as Lee Sungbo, Yoensu Yoon, Junguk Lee, Lee Jaehun, and Song Gil Sung—all Korean nationals.

Also arrested were John Michael Dimaampao, Alyssa Payabyab Lee, Maiko De Luna Natividad, and John Patrick Sotto Gonzales.

The operation stemmed from arrest warrants issued against the suspects for violation of the Access Devices Regulation Act.

Confiscated from the suspects were computers, laptops, cellphones, among others.

Sinas said the arrested persons were allegedly engaged in fraudulent schemes victimizing mostly Korean and US nationals.

He said these suspects allegedly gathered multi-million pesos from illegal activities exploiting technology advances.

“These schemes which constitute economic sabotage are one of the national security concerns of the PNP-CIDG,” Sinas said.
