Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra tests positive for COVID-19

Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a message to his constituents sent out on Sunday night, Gandamra said he got infected despite strictly observing health protocols.

“It is with deepest concern that I wish to inform you all that despite careful and religious observance of the minimum health protocols, I have been tested positive for COVID-19,” he said.

Gandamra said he received his RT-PCR test result on Sunday night.

He said aside from dry cough, he did not have any other symptoms.

Gandamra said from Monday to Friday he goes to the office to monitor the progress of the rehabilitation of Marawi City. It has been his routine to have an antigen test every Saturday before he would go home to his family.

On Saturday his antigen test result was positive. And so he decided to undergo RT-PCR test. With the swab test result, he did not go home anymore to his family to quarantine himself.

He asked those who had close contact with him recently to get themselves tested as well or undergo quarantine either at home or in a facility.

Gandamra also called on his constituents not to be complacent and not be afraid to get vaccinated.

“…(T)his is a wake-up call to all of us that we should still be vigilant and strictly follow the minimum health protocols implemented in the city. Refrain from nonessential travels and avoid mass gatherings as much as possible to effectively avoid being contracted of this virus,” he said.

“Furthermore, this is also a call to action to not be afraid to get vaccinated as this is by far the most impactful move that our government is doing to protect ourselves from the disease,” Gandamra said.

The City Hall will be disinfected on Monday.

Despite this, the mayor said services of the City Hall will not be disrupted. —With a report from Merlyn Manos/KG, GMA News
