Kaybiang Tunnel declared 'no tourism zone' due to nonstop traffic
The Kaybiang Tunnel in Mt. Pico de Loro will be considered "no tourism zone" starting March 19 to address the traffic problems in the area, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, Remulla said the heavy traffic was caused by the “thousands” of bicycles, motorbikes, and other vehicles that are parked in the area.
“Buong magdamag ay libo-libong bisikleta, motorsiklo, at sasakyan ang nakaparada, kumakain, nagliliwaliw at lahat ay tumitigil para mag-selfie o mag-picture-taking doon,” he said.
(All day long, thousands of bicycles, motorbikes, and vehicles were parked in the area. Motorists were dropping by to take selfies or take pictures there.)
“Ang resulta? Nonstop traffic at bottleneck mula entrance at exit ng tunnel. Kaya simula sa Biyernes ay strictly no tourism zone na ang Kaybiang Tunnel,” he added.
(This resulted in nonstop traffic and bottleneck from the entrance to the exit. So starting Friday, the Kaybiang Tunnel will be strictly a no tourism zone.)
In line with this, the provincial government will prohibit parking in the vicinity of the Kaybiang Tunnel as well as leisure bikers from using the tunnel.
Eating, taking selfies, loitering, and blowing of horns in the vicinity of the tunnel will also be prohibited, Remulla said.
The Philippine National Police will set up checkpoints in Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate to monitor vehicles entering the area. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
