Angat Dam to open one gate as rains continue to pour due to LPA

One gate of Angat Dam in Bulacan will be opened to release water on Sunday afternoon, the PAGASA Hydrometeorology Division Flood Forecasting and Warning Section said.

It said one gate will be opened at 0.5 meters (60 cms) at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The municipalities of Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan and Plaridel were warned they may be affected by the release of water from Angat Dam.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, the water level at Angat Dam reached 213.28 meters.

This is over the 212-meter spilling level of the said dam.

The Ipo Dam’s water level meanwhile was at 100.25 meters as of 6 a.m. Sunday, just a few meters away from its spilling level of 101 meters.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Bulacan, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Quezon, Aurora, Bulacan, Rizal, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Dinagat Islands, Calamian Islands, and Kalayaan Islands on Sunday due to two low pressure areas being monitored, the weather bureau said.

PAGASA warned residents and local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the necessary appropriate action. —KG, GMA News
