Police nab murder suspect in Cotabato City

A murder suspect was arrested in Cotabato City on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.

Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region identified the suspect as Rafzanjani Bayona Tatak, who was allegedly involved in the killing of 20-year-old Mondjahid Tauf.

Initial probe indicated that on December 21, the Upi Municipal Police Station obtained a report about Tauf who had gone missing.

The victim's mother, Amera Abubakar, told investigators that her son was supposedly fetched by the suspect from their residence in Barangay Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao at 2 p.m. on December 18.

Tauf had failed to return to his family since that day.

Residents in Barangay Kibucay, meanwhile, informed authorities about a grave in a remote area in the said barangay.

Police went to this grave and they recovered Tauf's body.

Testimonies of witnesses indicated that Tatak was involved in the crime. During his arrest, a handgun was recovered from him.

Police said personal grudge is being eyed as the motive of the killing.

Another suspect, a certain Datu Nash, remains at large and is being hunted by the police. —KG, GMA News
