Flood overwhelms Cagayan communities, bridges, roads –PIO

Cagayan residents took shelter at evacuation centers as floods amid heavy rains overwhelmed communities, bridges, and roads, the provincial government reported on Sunday.

In a series of Facebook posts, the Cagayan Public Information Office said that Tuguegarao City, and the towns of Lasam, Baggao, Tuao, Amulung, Solana, Enrile, Camalaniugan were affected by flooding.

In Tuguegarao City, Mayor Jeff Soriano inspected several affected barangays and designated some personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Barangay Linao East to provide locals with assistance in case the flooding worsened.

The Cagayan River burst its banks along its Tuguegarao City-Namabbalan Sur section, preventing light vehicles from passing through the area.

In Barangay Centro 4 and Centro 11, local officials were monitoring the situation for a possible evacuation of residents as some low-lying areas were already flooded.

Deep floods hit Baranagy West due to the continuous rains brought by the Northeast Monsoon, which resulted in the Cagayan River overflowing.

The vehicles of affected residents in Barangay Annafunan East were kept for the meantime in St. Rose of Lima Church.

In the town of Tuao, Cagayan PIO said the Itawes/Maguilling Overflow Bridge remained not passable since Saturday due to flooding.

The flood in the municipality in Amulung already entered some houses in low-lying barangays.

In the town of Enrile, many baranagays were also submerged in the flood while some roads were not passable.

According to Cagayan PIO, at least 28 local roads and bridges were still impassable in the province as of noon.
