Four family members killed in Baggao, Cagayan landslide

Four family members were killed after a sudden landslide in Baggao, Cagayan, after the typhoon, according to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras.”

The victims were identified as siblings Frank Jay and Ian Philip Pagulayan, their grandmother Virginia Bautista, and their cousin King Jim Bragasin.

Francisco Pagulayan, the siblings’ father, said he was not expecting the landslides as it had already stopped raining that night.

However, Francisco said, at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, November 13, water suddenly burst from underneath the house where the victims were sleeping.

“Inalis ko ‘yung mga flooring pero malalaki hindi ko ma-kwan, buhat. Bakit wala kayo, sabi ko… wala na,” Francisco said.

His family were already dead when their bodies were retrieved in the morning.

A total of 11 houses were totally destroyed. Due to this, the Baggao National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office appealed construction materials.

“Totally damaged na ‘yung bahay nila baka puwede pong ‘yung ibang tutulong mga construction materials, repair materials na lang po. Eh, kasi kahit mayroon kaming mahanap na relocation sites kung wala naman gagamitin,” Pong Corpuz, of the Baggao-NDRRMO, said.

Around 14,000 residents who were affected by the typhoon are currently living in tents. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
