River overflows, roads impassable in Catanduanes due to Ulysses
A river overflowed and roads were rendered impassable by the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses in Catanduanes on Wednesday, just a week after the province was lashed by Super Typhoon Rolly.
According to Sandra Aguinaldo's “24 Oras” report, the typhoon caused a raging flow of water in the Sto. Domingo river.
Water overflowed in the Pajo-Antipolo area in the afternoon.
The heavy downpour also submerged rice fields in the province.
Meanwhile, the road leading to the center of Antipolo became impassable even to bigger vehicles.
“Hindi ko na makita ‘yung daan e, medyo tumaas na,” one motorist said.
Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua said the circumferential road in the boundary between the towns of Virac and Bato also became impassable due to a landslide.
He said authorities will clear roadblocks first thing on Thursday.
Ulysses has made its way past Catanduanes but PAGASA said rains will last until Thursday morning.
At least 2,000 families in Catanduanes were earlier evacuated in anticipation of Ulysses’ onslaught. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
