OCD V says over 3,000 families preemptively evacuated in Bicol

More than 3,000 families have been preemptively evacuated in Region V in preparation for the effects of Typhoon Ulysses, the Office of Civil Defense V said.

In its latest report, the OCD V said a total of 3,525 families or 12,812 people are already staying in evacuation centers across the region.

It also said 938 passengers are stranded in the region as well as 255 trucks, 44 light vehicles and five sea vessels. The OCD V also said 46 sea vessels are currently taking shelter in ports.

As of its 1 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Ulysses was located 125 kilometers north northwest of Virac, Catanduanes or 95 km northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte packing maximum sustained winds of 135 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 165 kph.

It was moving in a westward direction at 20 kph.

PAGASA said Ulysses would move generally westward throughout the forecast period and pass over the seas north of Camarines provinces between Wednesday afternoon and evening.

It is forecasted to make landfall over Polillo Islands and mainland Quezon between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
