Malinao, Albay stroke victim thought it was her end when Rolly hit

A senior citizen and stroke victim in Malinao, Albay on Friday admitted that she thought she was about to die when strong waves brought by Super Typhoon Rolly crashed onto the coast.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras,” Zenaida Chavenia can no longer move after she suffered a stroke.

“Takot na takot ako. Tamaan ako ng alon, malakas. Ang laki-laki ng alon… naisip ko siguro kamatayan ko na,” Chavenia said.

There were more than 100 houses in the coastal area of Barangay Baybay. However, only a few houses were left standing after Rolly struck the area.

Meanwhile, another resident took cover under a makeshift shelter made of galvanized iron sheets.

“Kapag umulan tumutulo rin. Nakaupo lang kami habang natutulog. Wala kaming masilungan eh,” Perla Calmada said.

More than 3,000 houses were totally destroyed in the town.

“It’s six to eight hours of continuous rain. Parang grabe talaga ang lakas ng hangin and ulan. 90 percent ng mga bahay diyan sa mga coastal talagang nasira. As in totally damaged,” Malinao Mayor Lenybelle Ceriola-Santos said.
