Batangas City declares state of calamity, nearby provinces suffer Quinta's impact

The city government of Batangas has declared a state of calamity due to the  widespread damage brought by Typhoon Quinta.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras,” among those affected were more than 300 residents who were evacuated from their homes after these were destroyed by the typhoon.

The declaration of a state of calamity will allow the city government to tap into funds that it can use to assist those affected by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, the rough waves prevailing over the seas of Batangas on Monday had calmed down by Tuesday morning.

This allowed operations to resume at ports, according to the Batangas Port Authority.

Quinta left damages to homes, farmlands, schools, roads and other infrastructure in nearby provinces such as Quezon and Albay.

A bridge destroyed in the municipality of San Francisco in Quezon forced the residents to cross a raging river on a fallen tree.

Houses in Barangay San Miguel in Marinduque were left damaged due to the strong winds.

Meanwhile, two missing fishermen were found dead on Tuesday morning in Virac, Catanduanes. Six others are still missing.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF/BAP, GMA News
