Man pretending to be Marcos heir nabbed over investment scam

A man pretending to be an heir of the Marcos family and scamming people with the promise of sharing his inheritance was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in his Antipolo home.

According to John Consulta’s “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, the man who goes by the name Malbert Marcos, 53, has been pretending to be related to the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and offering investment opportunities to victims in exchange for fake gold certificates since 2012.

Investigators are still trying to determine the suspect's real name.

Three complainants have come forward against him.

“He claims na marami siyang mamanahing mga wealth sa Marcos family and then nagpa-promise siya na whoever will donate to him, any amount, will benefit from the wealth that he is about to receive,” NBI Anti-Organized and Transnational Division chief Manny Eduarte said.

“Isa sa mga naging victims niya, ito na ‘yung naggagastos kapag may mga meeting sa hotels and other venues, hiniram ‘yung sasakyan, hindi na sinauli. So he was charged for carnapping,” he added.

Marcos denied all the accusations hurled against him.

“Sa mata ng Diyos, hindi ako nang-agrabyado ng kapwa,” the suspect said.

The NBI called on other victims to coordinate with authorities.

“Kung totoo na nag-invest sila, this is an investment scam so liable siya for large-scale estafa,” Eduarte said. -Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
