Several barangays in Bulacan submerged in flood
Several barangays in Balagtas, Bulacan were submerged in flood due to the downpour and high tide on Monday.
According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the water entered the streets and the houses of the residents in Barangay Panginay.
“Araw-araw mayroong high-tide. ‘Yong dahilan nga mababa dito, naantala ang agos ng tubig sa ilog,” Ricardo Jose, a resident, said.
Among the other barangays that were flooded were Wawa and San Juan.
“Kung mapapansin natin nag-lock na si Marilao, Bocaue at Hagonoy. Ang tendency ‘pag nag-high tide po siya, ‘pag ang isang barangay o bayan ay walang lock, (papasok po ‘yong tubig doon eh) so ito po ‘yong aming problema ngayon,” Barangay Panginay captain Rolando Santiago said.
Santiago added that Barangay Panginay is also a low area.
He said the river wall, which is currently under construction will be a big help to their barangay.
“Implementing na and actually yung 453 meters o almost half-kilometer na river wall papunta sa Florante Street ay ongoing at tapos na po ‘yong isang flood gate sa may subdivision doon… Ang nakalulungkot lang ay inabot talaga siya ng pandemic,” he said.
Aside from Balagtas, several barangays in Calumpit were also flooded.
Earlier, PAGASA said Tropical Depression Nika exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
However, the combined effects of Nika and the southwest monsoon will still bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Camarines provinces, Mindoro provinces and Palawan.—Ma.
