Catanduanes students camp out for data signals, online classes
When online classes began on August 10, a hill in Virac, Catanduanes became the temporary classroom of several students amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
According to Mai Bermudez’s Saturday report on “24 Oras Weekend,” students of the Catanduanes State University brave a bumpy and steep climb to a spot on a hill for an internet signal and their online classes.
Plastic tarps are used for makeshift tents, while other students seek shade under trees.
With face masks on and cellphones in hand, the students focus as best they can on their classes.
In Cebu, a grade 7 student clambers up a tree for an internet signal.
“She’s very excited to see her friends, her classmates, and her teachers. And this spot is the best area for an internet signal. That’s the reason why she’s up there,” her mother said.
The mother makes sure that her daughter is safe up on her perch and monitors her progress in school. — DVM, GMA News
