Grade schooler climbs tree for internet signal, online classes

A grade 2 student in Barangay Cabatang in Bohol has to climb up to a small tree house for an internet connection which he uses to attend his online classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, six-year-old Arvin Curangcurang’s relatives decided to build him a small tree house on top of a hill in the middle of a rice field because that was the only place with a data signal in their area.

“Naghanap kami ng lugar na malakas ‘yong internet access para doon namin maipagpapatuloy ‘yong online class namin. Dito kami nakahanap ng spot na malakas internet connection kaya dito na namin tinayo ‘yong treehouse,” Giecel Curangcurang, Arvin’s aunt, said.

The treehouse was approximately 600 meters from Arvin's home.

However, Giecel said despite being on top of a hill, the connection was still slow at times.

“‘Pag malakas ‘yong signal, nakak-focus siya pero ‘pag pawala-wala parang nawawala rin ‘yong focus niya, parang hindi niya naiintindihan kasi paputol-putol,” she said.

Despite the struggle, Arvin said he would persevere, but nevertheless hoped they would soon have a more reliable internet signal so his studies would not be disturbed.
