Several houses in Batangas affected by Taal mudflow

Several homes in the towns of Agoncillo and Laurel in Batangas were not only flooded due to the heavy downpour on Sunday but were also covered in thick mud and volcanic ash from Taal Volcano's January eruption.

In Marisol Abdurahman’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” video taken by Francis Garcia showed the mudflow entered several houses.

After the rain, thick mud covered the insides and outsides of the residents’ houses.

Most of the residents immediately washed their furniture and appliances to prevent further damage, while some also helped in clearing the mud and branches of trees that piled up on the roads.

Meanwhile, several boats that were docked in the shore of Taal Lake were destroyed by the mudflow.

Several houses were also destroyed and families and animals were displaced when Taal Volcano had a phreatic eruption on January 12.

In March, PHIVOLCS downgraded the volcano’s alert status to Level 1 (abnormal). — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
