Provinces brace for Tropical Depression Ambo

Several provinces have begun preparing for the possible effects of Tropical Depression Ambo which has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on 24 Oras, Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua said that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council will hold a meeting.

In Ormoc City, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has advised barangays to prepare evacuation centers. They will also disseminate information to residents on preparations for the rains.

Sorsogon, meanwhile, is facing a challenge in preparing evacuation centers as most of their schools are being used as quarantine areas for coronavirus disease 2019 patients.

"Magkakaroon po kami ng emergency meeting, relative in preparation for Tropical Depression Ambo. So we invited syempre 'yung lahat ng mga member ng council," Jocelyn Gallanosa, of Sorsogon's LDRRMO, said.

The Surigao CDRRMO has also started to prepare items necessary for emergency operations. They have also advised residents of possible changes in evacuation centers due to COVID-19.

"Kung may heavy rains po tayong mararamdaman, 'yung evacuation center po natin should be occupied half of its original capacity," Threlcie Villaces, CDRRMO, said.

"At the same time 'yung mga sasakyan po ng mga evacuees ay dapat po naka-observe po ng social distance," he added. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
