Over 300 female inmates at Zamboanga City Jail to be transferred

A total of 367 female inmates at Zamboanga City Jail will be transferred to a building in Zamboanga Central School, according to a 24 Oras News Alert report on Monday.

The local government of Zamboanga said the transfer was due to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the jail facility.

The Zamboanga LGU said the building in the school will be barricaded and monitored by soldiers.

Meanwhile, the jail facility of the female inmates will be turned into an isolation facility for male inmates of the city jail.

The date of the transfer is yet to be disclosed.

So far, 27 inmates from the Zamboanga City Jail and two jail guards tested positive for the respiratory illness. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
