Magnitude 6.0 earthquake hits Basco, Batanes
A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Basco, Batanes early Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The quake which hit at 12:44 a.m. is tectonic in origin and had a depth of 157 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes.
Intensity IV was felt in Basco and Itbayat in Batanes.
Intensity III meanwhile was felt in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Luna and Apayao.
Damage is not expected after the quake, PHIVOLCS reported, but residents may experience aftershocks, PHIVOLCS said.
Batanes Governor Malou Cayco said she was in Manila since she underwent an operation. She contacted her sibling who said there was not much damage in the province, according to a report of 24 Oras Breaking News.
Batanes Representative Ciriaco Gato Jr. also said the province did not suffer much damage. —BAP/KG, GMA News
